The RHS Choir, directed by Sol Bloch, along with the Orchestra and Band, directed by Michael McNamara, took home the Platinum title from this years “Fantastic Festivals” competition this past Friday.

In addition to receiving the highest award, the choir went on to win the “Espirit de Corps” Award, which is granted to “a  group that best exemplifies good decorum and good musicianship,” according to the ¨Fantastic Festivals.¨

Each musical group was given feedback from adjudicators, who provided guidance and important advice for the Choir, Orchestra, and Band regarding their performance. Students were later given the opportunity in class to listen to each adjudicator’s comments in a recording, in order to perfect different skills and fine-tune any mistakes.

“I’m so proud of the RHS concert choir! The students did a fantastic job and received rating of platinum from the judges. The choir displayed a high level of musicianship and professionalism, and wonderfully represented RHS. This was a great event because after all their hard work performing, the students had the rest of the day to enjoy Six Flags. It was a great day for all!” said Mr. Bloch.

The competition concluded with a visit to Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA, where musicians from various states came together in celebration. Elementary, Middle, and High School musicians celebrated their mutual love for music and the the educational opportunity adjudicators provided.

“Mr. Bloch and I are both very proud of our entire music program. It was such a great day. We played at our absolute best and were given the top rating you can get at a festival like this,” said Mr. McNamara.

“I have done many adjudications with this company before, and it is no easy feat to score so high. Then we got to enjoy each other and build a sense of community by having some fun at Six Flags in the afternoon. It was a bonding experience. I haven’t done this since I left the middle schools for RHS, and I have missed it. Looking forward to next year!”

The music department also has the opportunity to win additional awards once their performance is ranked after the conclusion of all “Fantastic Festivals” dates. All groups will be placed in score order, and those ranked first, second, and third place in each division and level will be awarded trophies. These rankings will be announced in early June.

Ridgefield High School is thrilled with the Music Department’s performance, and success at ¨Fantastic Festivals. There is no telling what these talented musicians and directors will achieve in the future.
